Breeding new Axies requires two tokens: Smooth Love Potion (SLP) and Axie Infinity Shards (AXS), the game’s governance token. The game also features a scholarship system, where asset owners (managers) lend Axies to players (scholars) who cannot afford to buy them. Scholars use the borrowed Axies to play and earn SLP, which is then shared between the player and the manager.
