Intro
WITS (What Is This Sorcery) is a trading card game (TCG) that combines physical collectibles with blockchain-powered digital gameplay. Developed by What Is This Studio Ltd., the game introduces true ownership of digital cards via NFTs, allowing players to engage in both digital and physical battles.
Story
The world of Catena was forever altered when the comet Satonako infused it with a mysterious force known as WAGMI. This powerful magic led to the rise of two factions: the Light, guided by ViBu and Centurio, who seek to safeguard their world, and the Dark, commanded by Drath and Segomo, who aim to exploit WAGMI for control.
At the center of this conflict is the Halvening, a recurring event that influences WAGMI’s strength, forcing those who wield it to either share its power or risk its decline. As tensions rise, wandering sorcerers like Finney and Szabo sense an impending battle that could reshape Catena’s future. This evolving narrative expands through seasonal events and new story arcs, continuously shaping the game’s world and mechanics.
Gameplay
- Objective & Strategy – The goal in WITS is to outmaneuver opponents in strategic, turn-based duels by reducing their health to zero or achieving victory through specific card or game mode conditions.
- Deck Building – Players construct decks using a combination of physical and digital cards, each with unique abilities and costs. Physical cards can be scanned via NFC for use in digital matches.
- Turn-Based Combat – Gameplay unfolds in turns where players draw cards, summon creatures, cast spells, activate effects, and manage resources such as mana. The battle phase is crucial for executing strategic plays and countering opponents.
- Game Modes & Progression – Matches are available in various formats, from casual play to ranked competition. Winning grants Essence, experience, and new cards, encouraging continuous deck refinement and adaptation to the evolving game environment.
- NFT Ownership & Rewards – Players can purchase NFT versions of cards, gaining intellectual property (IP) ownership. NFT holders benefit from revenue sharing when their card designs are used for physical sales and receive rewards when others use their cards in-game.
- Ecosystem Rewards – Competitive players and idle-game participants earn $WITS tokens, which can be used in-game or traded. The system includes NFT rewards, physical packs, and leaderboard incentives.
- Marketplace & Trading – A player-to-player trading system allows users to buy, sell, and trade both physical and digital cards, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on true ownership.
- Physical x Digital Integration – Each physical card is embedded with chip technology, allowing players to claim and use their physical cards in the digital game. These cards can be used in competitive game modes, contributing to a player’s ranked progression. Additionally, digital reward versions of these cards exist online, enabling passive earnings—whenever another player uses a digital rewards version of a card, the original card owner receives a portion of the rewards from competitive matches.
