Introduction
Dark Machine is an upcoming team-based mech shooter from studio Meta-X, built in Unreal Engine 5 for PC. Squads of piloted mecha fight across destructible arenas in a science-fiction world where humanity sends machines into a hostile dimension born from human memory. The game folds in blockchain-based asset ownership and runs alongside a companion anime series as part of a wider cross-media project.
Lore
Dark Machine unfolds in The Dark, a non-reality space that forms where human memory wavelengths synchronize. Running through it is Archorn, a thermal current that corrupts memories even as it generates Palma, a dense form of energy. To reach Palma and survive The Dark, humanity builds and pilots the machines the project is named for, pressing into a dimension no one fully understands.
That setup leaves an open question the story keeps circling: whether venturing into The Dark is hope for a struggling humanity or a danger it cannot control. The same world anchors Dark Machine the Animation, a companion series that widens the setting through its characters and their reasons for going in.
Gameplay
Dark Machine is built around 7v7 team battles where each player pilots a mech and wins by out-coordinating the other side rather than simply trading fire. Pilots choose between three differently sized mecha and can trigger Shift Up transformations mid-match to change size, role, and tactics as a fight develops. Rounds play out across objective and elimination-style modes, with skill-based tournaments layered on top for competitive play.
- Shift Up system: mecha evolve between sizes during a match, letting a team adjust its lineup as the fight shifts.
- Destructible arenas: map structures break down under fire, changing sightlines and routes as a round goes on.
- Timing and teamwork: matches reward reading the moment and moving with allies over solo aggression.
Economy
Ownership sits at the center of the economy: mecha, weapons, and other equipment exist as tradable NFTs, several using dynamic-NFT technology so an item’s appearance reflects its upgrades and battle damage over time. Players earn through match results and tournament placement. A tradable token underpins staking, marketplace activity, and a governance layer where holders weigh in on league and tournament rules, while a separate premium in-game currency covers asset purchases and entry fees.
- NFT gear: mecha and equipment are player-owned and tradable, with dynamic items that visually track upgrades and damage.
- Token utility: the Machina token (MXNA) supports staking, marketplace payments, and holder governance over competitive rules.
- Earning through play: match performance and tournament results drive in-game rewards.
