Introduction
Medieval Empires is a multiplayer online strategy game set in what is now modern-day Turkey during the late 13th century, built on Polygon. Players build towns, train armies, and expand their territory against rival factions in a persistent, player-driven world. It runs on PC, Mac, and mobile, with land ownership handled through tradable NFTs.
Lore
Medieval Empires dramatizes the historical rivalry between Ertugrul Gazi, leader of the Kayi Turkic Tribe, and Edward Longshanks, the English king expanding a Crusade toward the Holy Land during the late 13th century. Actor Engin Altan Duzyatan, known for playing Ertugrul in the television series Dirilis: Ertugrul, portrays the same historical figure in the game.
The current build features two playable factions, the Turkic Tribes and the English Crusaders, with additional factions such as the Mongols planned for future updates. Players take on the role of an emerging leader within this conflict, building a town and forging alliances as the wider war between the two sides plays out around them.
Gameplay
The goal is to grow a small town into a powerful medieval empire through building, resource management, and warfare. Players alternate between a town view, where they construct buildings and gather resources such as wood, wheat, and ore, and a province view, where armies move to attack, defend, or expand territory. Heroes and units are trained with distinct skillsets, including archery, cavalry, and sword fighting, and alliances with other players factor into larger strategic pushes across the map.
- Land NFT slots: each Land NFT contains multiple town slots, which owners can rent out to other players to host their own towns.
- Two combat tracks: a passive PvE area sits alongside open conflict between the Turkic Tribes and English Crusaders.
- Hero training: recruit and upgrade heroes with archery, cavalry, or sword-fighting specializations to lead your army.
Economy
Medieval Empires runs a two-token economy. Silver is the primary in-game currency, earned through play and used for everyday costs like upgrades and unit training, while MEE is the tradable utility and governance token, used for premium content, voting on certain in-game decisions, and land-related perks. Landowners collect taxes from players who rent town slots on their Land NFTs, and heroes and land can be bought, sold, or traded through the official marketplace and OpenSea. MEE also unlocks VIP status, priority access to Land NFT draws, and early access to new features.
- Land taxes: landowners earn from players renting town slots on their property.
- MEE utility: grants voting power, VIP status, and priority access to Land NFT sales.
- Tradable assets: Land NFTs and heroes trade on the official marketplace and OpenSea.
