Introduction
Otherside is a MetaRPG metaverse developed by Yuga Labs on ApeChain, blending MMORPG exploration, social interactions, and player-driven creation in a persistent shared world. It enables thousands of concurrent players using advanced scaling technology now fully in-house after the 2025 Improbable acquisition. The Koda Nexus hub launched November 2025 with browser access; continuous updates include Update 1.3 (March 2026) and Blitz Season 1.
Lore
The world of Otherside is an interdimensional realm centered on an ancient Obelisk whose secrets unfold through Voyager’s Journey narrative phases. Enigmatic Kodas remain tied to the land’s origins and power the ecosystem. Distinct biomes connect via the Nexus hub, where players discover artifacts, forge interactions, and influence the evolving history through events and challenges.
Gameplay
Otherside emphasizes exploration of the Nexus and biomes, completing multiplayer/single-player challenges, daily tasks, and minigames for badges and progression. Players engage in massive social experiences and build custom content using the Otherside Development Kit (ODK). Current modes include Blitz (team-based shooter with new maps, weapons, and survival elements in Season 1) plus social tools like Bubbles and KodaCam.
- Massive concurrent events, challenges, and daily tasks
- User-created experiences and avatars via ODK
- Minigames including Chaos Particle and Blitz PvP
Economy
ApeCoin (APE) serves as the core utility and governance token powering transactions and ecosystem features on ApeChain. Otherdeed NFTs provide land ownership with upcoming 2026 resource harvesting, crafting, and trading (Anima, Ore, Shards). Player creations and items trade in the in-game marketplace, supporting a dynamic player-driven economy. Interoperable avatars from dozens of NFT collections enhance access and utility without full paywalls.
