Introduction
Star Atlas is a free to play space exploration metaverse MMO available through web browser systems and a Windows PC client on the Epic Games Store. The project uses Solana for legacy assets and collectibles, while newer high frequency systems are being tested through the Zink SVM Layer 1 migration. Its setting follows three rival factions competing across a 2620 science fiction universe shaped by resource extraction, logistics, and governance.
Lore
Star Atlas is set in the year 2620, where the known universe is divided among three rival factions formed after a past cataclysm. The MUD Territory represents humanity’s industrial expansion, the ONI Region is a consortium of alien races, and the Ustur Sector is controlled by sentient androids. Current world building focuses on deep space expansion, freight logistics, and conflict zones where these groups compete for influence. The setting combines faction politics, resource competition, and distinct architectural and visual identities for each faction.
Gameplay
Star Atlas is split between SAGE Labs, a browser based grand strategy layer, and a Windows PC Unreal Engine 5 client focused on real time flight, exploration, and combat. The core loop centers on fleet management, starbase development, mining, crafting, missions, and faction activity across a persistent sci fi setting.
- Surge Mode: A faction based third person shooter and objective mode focused on direct conflict.
- SAGE Starbased: A strategy layer built around fleets, logistics, resources, and starbase upgrades.
- Crew Systems: Ship crews add RPG style roles that can affect vessel performance and specialization.
Economy
Star Atlas uses ATLAS as the Star Atlas utility token and POLIS as the Star Atlas DAO governance token. NFT based ships, crew, components, and Cultivation Claims are part of the asset layer and are traded through the Galactic Marketplace. SAGE mining and crafting systems connect resource production with broader gameplay use, while POLIS supports voting and governance participation. The Zink SVM Layer 1 is part of a testnet migration phase for high frequency game actions rather than the older Solana only setup.
- ATLAS and POLIS: ATLAS functions as the utility token, while POLIS is tied to governance.
- NFT asset layer: Ships, crew, components, and Cultivation Claims connect to the game economy and marketplace.
- Resource systems: SAGE mining and crafting feed into broader economy loops across the project.
