Introduction
Axie Infinity is a collection of connected games built around Axies, digital creatures players collect, breed, and battle on the Ronin blockchain. Developed by Sky Mavis, it now spans a card-based battler, the original team-battle game, and a land management mode set in the world of Lunacia. Players build a roster of Axies and carry it across these experiences, each with its own rules for access, assets, and rewards.

Lore
Axie Infinity takes place in Lunacia, a world once shaped by the goddess Atia and her flame, where small creatures called Axies live across distinct lands and biomes. Axies draw their traits from real animals such as axolotls, birds, bugs, and aquatic life, and each carries body parts that define how it looks and how it fights. The setting frames Axies as companions raised, trained, and sent into battle by their owners, the Lunacians. Threats known as Chimera press against the borders of these lands, giving the world an ongoing conflict that the battle modes draw on. Atia’s shrine and her flame recur across the games, tying the newer land mode back to the same mythology.
Gameplay
The shared foundation across Axie Infinity is a roster of Axies, each with stats and abilities set by its body parts, that players field in turn-based battles and other activities. The ecosystem now runs as three distinct games, and the same Axies can move between them. New players receive free starter Axies to learn the basics before acquiring their own.
Origins
Origins is the current flagship battler and is free to start. Players form a team of three Axies and fight through Adventure mode against AI or Arena mode against other players, using cards tied to each Axie’s parts. Winning matches and clearing quests earns rewards and Axie Experience Points that level up individual Axies.
Classic
Classic preserves the original battle system that launched the game. It centers on ranked Arena play against other Lunacians plus PvE content such as Tower runs against Chimera, and layers on a battle pass, quests, and temporary stat-changing gear.
Terrariums
Terrariums replaced the earlier Homeland land game in June 2026 and turns owned plots into a slower, management-style mode. Players assign Axies to a plot, spend a resource called Lunium on each hourly tick, and generate Atia’s Flame according to how rare their assigned Axies are.
Economy
Axie Infinity’s economy is built on Axies as tradable NFTs and two on-chain tokens. Owners buy, sell, and breed Axies through the official marketplace, and breeding consumes both the governance token and Smooth Love Potion earned in battle.
- AXS anchors governance and staking across the ecosystem and forms part of every breeding cost.
- Smooth Love Potion is the gameplay currency earned mainly through Origins and Classic battles and spent on breeding new Axies.
- Axie Experience Points are an off-chain, non-tradable stat that levels up individual Axies through play.
Terrariums
The land mode adds its own loop: plots consume Lunium each tick and pay out bonded AXS in proportion to a plot’s share of Atia’s Flame. Lunium can be bought or slowly regenerated for free, and when a plot runs dry its Axies earn experience points instead of rewards.
