Story

Axie Infinity is set in the fantasy world of Lunacia, home to Axies—small, mystical creatures with unique genetic traits inspired by real-world animals like axolotls. Players take on the role of adventurers exploring this vibrant land, engaging in battles, and participating in ongoing quests. The game’s lore continues to expand as new content and challenges are introduced, deepening the narrative experience for players.

Gameplay

Axie Infinity is a turn-based strategy game where the primary goal is to build a team of three Axies and use them in tactical battles. Each Axie has distinct stats and abilities determined by its body parts, which influence its performance in combat. Players engage in card-based battles where each card represents a unique Axie skill, requiring strategic decision-making to defeat opponents.

Victory in battles earns players Smooth Love Potion (SLP), a token used for breeding new Axies. The game offers both PvE (adventure mode) and PvP modes, where players can test their skills against AI or other players. While the game originally required purchasing Axies to play, a free-to-play version was later introduced, allowing new players to experience the gameplay without upfront costs.

Economy and NFTs

Axie Infinity’s economy revolves around NFTs and cryptocurrencies. Axies are NFTs that can be bought, sold, and traded on the marketplace. Breeding new Axies requires two tokens: Smooth Love Potion (SLP) and Axie Infinity Shards (AXS), the game’s governance token. Players can earn SLP through battles and AXS through tournaments and staking rewards.

The game also features a scholarship system, where asset owners (managers) lend Axies to players (scholars) who cannot afford to buy them. Scholars use the borrowed Axies to play and earn SLP, which is then shared between the player and the manager. Additionally, Axie Infinity includes virtual land ownership, allowing players to develop and monetize their plots within Lunacia. This diverse ecosystem of NFTs and tokens forms the foundation of the game’s play-to-earn model.
