Introduction
Calamity is a free-to-play 2D top-down action RPG with real-time dungeon combat, 3v3 PvP, and seasonal progression. Developed by Something is Cooking, it is playable in open beta on Windows, macOS, and Android, with optional Web3 features connected to Ronin. Its pixel-art fantasy setting centers on dungeons, trials, crafting, trading, and competitive arenas.
Setting
Calamity takes place in a colorful pixel-art fantasy world built around dungeons, trials, boss encounters, and competitive arenas. Its structure focuses more on seasonal progression and repeatable activities than a detailed narrative. Characters, equipment, Gold, and leaderboard progress reset between seasons, while account-level cosmetics remain available across seasonal cycles.
Gameplay
Players select Warrior, Archer, or Mage specializations through their equipped weapon, which determines their active skills and combat role. Progression involves using Daily and Conquest Energy to enter dungeons, defeat enemies and bosses, collect equipment, craft items, and improve gear. Competitive play is available through 3v3 Team Deathmatch leagues, while groups of up to three players can cooperate in PvE content.
- Weapon-defined classes: Changing weapons changes the character’s specialization and available abilities.
- Equipment progression: Gear can be enhanced with gems and upgraded through a system that introduces greater risk at higher levels.
- Seasonal structure: Characters, equipment, currencies, and leaderboards reset while persistent cosmetics remain tied to the account.
Economy
Loot, materials, gems, and crafted equipment can be traded through a global Auction House whose prices are determined by player activity. Gold is the main in-game currency and is used within tribute systems that connect eligible reward distributions to USDC, with 100 Gold corresponding to 1 USDC under the documented conversion system.
WYRM supports selected economy functions, while on-chain claims are handled through the game’s dashboard. NFT assets include Factories, Dragon Rings, and Artifacts. Factories provide production-related functions and staking utility, while other assets have gameplay or cosmetic roles. These blockchain systems are optional rather than required for the basic combat and progression loop.
- Player trading: Equipment, resources, gems, and crafted items can be listed on the Auction House.
- Reward systems: Wyrm Tributes, Silver Tributes, and Fortune’s Veil distribute rewards through separate activity systems.
- NFT utility: Factory assets support production functions, while Dragon Rings and Artifacts provide additional utility or cosmetics.
