Introduction

EVE Frontier is a hardcore space survival game set in the Frontier, a hostile corner of the EVE Universe sealed off by three shifting black holes. Built by CCP Games, the studio behind EVE Online, it plays in third person as a spaceship game and carries optional blockchain infrastructure on Sui.

It is currently in paid Founder Access, with Cycle 6 “Sanctuary” live since June 25 2026.

Lore

The Frontier is a broken region of space held captive by the Trinary, three shifting black holes that seal it off from the wider EVE Universe. It is scattered with the ruins and Feral AI remnants of civilizations that came before and failed to escape. Players take the role of Riders, minds that awaken inside manufactured clone bodies called Shells, so death returns a Rider to a fresh Shell rather than ending the story. The stated aim is to endure the region’s hazards, uncover what the Trinary conceals, and rebuild a foothold for civilization through exploration, industry, and the societies players form. The galaxy is persistent, and the marks players leave on it are meant to carry forward.

Gameplay

The core loop has players mine resources, refine them into fuel, build and defend bases, and fight through third-person ship combat against both Feral AI and rival pilots. Cycle 6 “Sanctuary” reset the servers for a fresh start and moved much of the early industry loop, from basic printing to refining, so it can be handled aboard the ship itself rather than at external structures. How far a pilot pushes into the Frontier depends on what they can build, salvage, and survive.

  • Modular ships: every vessel starts as a Seed and grows through acquired modules that unlock new capabilities and combat roles, replacing the old level-based ship catalog.
  • Environmental hazards: ships overheat near stars and freeze in colder regions, turning positioning into a survival factor.
  • Sharper Feral AI: hostile drones behave less predictably in Sanctuary, raising the stakes on exploration and salvage runs.

Economy

The economy centers on fuel, the resource that keeps ships, bases, and industry running, and on the markets players build around it. Cycle 6 introduced LUX, an in-game currency earned by looting feral drones and trading with roaming trader drones, which players can exchange for a test version of the game’s planned token to perform actions such as acquiring mining lenses and refining fuel. The blockchain layer on Sui is optional: programmable Smart Assemblies, written in the Move language, let players automate infrastructure and build custom economic systems. A live mainnet token sits on the roadmap but is not yet deployed.

  • Fuel-driven markets: players set their own prices and trade routes around fuel and salvage instead of a fixed shop economy.
  • Optional on-chain automation: Smart Assemblies can run persistent structures such as toll systems or trading posts without constant input.
  • Cycle resets: progress and player economies are wiped at each cycle boundary while the game tests features toward full launch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is EVE Frontier available now?
Yes. It is in Founder Access with Cycle 6 “Sanctuary”, which went live on June 25 2026 and reset the game world for a fresh start. Access runs through paid Founder packs, though CCP periodically opens limited free-trial windows around new cycles.

When is the full release?
No firm date has been announced. The game continues through Founder Access cycles with periodic server wipes, and the full public launch is planned as free-to-play once development and the token rollout are further along.

Is it a crypto game?
Blockchain on Sui powers optional programmable modding and player-run economies through Smart Assemblies written in the Move language. Participation is optional, and core gameplay does not require a wallet, crypto, or token. An in-game LUX currency can be swapped for a test version of the planned token, but the live mainnet token has not launched yet.

Is it related to EVE Online?
It is set in the same EVE Universe but is a fully standalone game, with its own hardcore survival mechanics, third-person ship control, and a focus on industry and base-building rather than the fleet warfare EVE Online is known for.
